Abstract
The anabolic effects of 17β-hydroxyestra-4,9,11-trien-3-one (Trenbolone) were investigated in intact male rats to evaluate its tissue-selective activity across muscle, bone, adiposity, hemoglobin, and the prostate. This study aimed to determine whether Trenbolone exhibits unique anabolic properties without inducing undesirable side effects associated with other anabolic agents.
Methods
The study employed a two-phase experimental design:
Animal Care
- Surgical preparation and handling
- Hormone delivery methods
- Blood sample collection and analysis for hemoglobin (Hb) and serum hormone levels
- Bone morphometry and mechanical strength assessment
Pilot Study Experiment Design
Verification of hormone delivery and suppression of endogenous sex hormones.
Surgery
- Implantation of hormone delivery devices
- Monitoring of anabolic and catabolic hormone levels
Hormone Delivery
Subcutaneous or intramuscular administration of Trenbolone.
Hb and Serum Hormone Analyses
Weekly blood draws for Hb levels and serum hormone measurements.
Experimental Design Study 2
Prostate and LABC responses to Trenbolone administration in intact male rats.
Statistical Analysis
- Data collection for weight gain, food consumption, and adiposity
- Analysis of muscle development metrics
- Bone strength and density measurements
Results
Pilot Experiment: Verification of Hormone Delivery and Suppression of Endogenous Sex Hormones
Data demonstrated effective hormone delivery with suppression of endogenous sex hormones.
Figure 1
See Figure 1 for serum androgen concentrations and related metrics.
Experiment 2: Prostate and LABC Responses to Trenbolone Administration in Intact Male Rats
- Hormone responses indicating anabolic activity
- Weight gain patterns reflecting tissue-specific effects
- Prostate and liver abscess (LABC) responses
Discussion
Trenbolone exhibited tissue-selective anabolic activity, favoring muscle development while maintaining bone health and safety in prostate function. The study highlights its potential as a targeted therapeutic agent.
