US Congress Warns Employees not to Install Chinese AI App DeepSeek: Report

US congressional offices have been warned against installing the Chinese AI app DeepSeek, Axios reported on Thursday, citing a notification released by the chief of the US House of Representatives.

According to Axios, the notification stated, “At this time, DeepSeek is under review by the CAO and is currently unapproved for official House use.”

The introduction of DeepSeek, an inexpensive Chinese AI model, has raised issues about its potential to challenge the market supremacy of US-based AI giants like OpenAI and Alphabet’s Google.

Last week, DeepSeek introduced a free AI assistant that it declares operates with lower information use and at a fraction of the cost of US models. Within days, it became the most downloaded app on Apple’s App Store, sustaining worries about US management in AI. This development contributed to a market shake-up that erased around $1 trillion in worth from US tech stocks.
